How To Choose Your First LCD Flat Screen TV

Are you ready to buy your very first LCD flat screen TV? LCD flat screen TVs are becoming more and more popular and they have recently had dramatic price drops. If you are in the market for a new flat screen TV, then you have many choices before you.

The plasma screen was one of the most exciting consumer electronics products to hit the market in the last 10 years. Now however, the LCD flat screen TV's are catching on for many reasons. Plasma screens tend to use more electricity, and are heavier which makes wall mounting more difficult. Another drawback with plasma is that the screens are a bit 'softer' and are more easily scratched. When Plasma flat screen TV's were first produced, their life expectancy was around 20,000 hours but now with the newer generations of plasma screens, their life span is closer to 50-60,000 hours.

Advantages of a LCD flat screen TV is that it is not susceptible to burn-in and usually is less expensive than plasma televisions. Because of the nature of LCD technology, there is no radiation emitted from the screen itself. It is also lighter weight than the plasma counterpart and thus easier to hang.

Plasma screens, in general, handle faster moving images better than LCD's. Plasma and LCD screens may look similar, but that is really where their similarities end. Some LCD do not have the level of color accuracy as plasma displays. Historically plasma screens had better viewing angles than LCD. You would tend to see color variations with side viewing of the LCD's, while the Plasma screen colors remained more solid.

Prices vary from company to company, so it is smart to shop around. There are many makes, models, sizes and prices associated with the LCD flat display. The prices of the TVs will vary, depending on the size, manufacturer, model and merchant. The name brands are going to be substantially more expensive than the non name brands.

Once you get that LCD flat screen TV up on your wall, you will surely have no buyer's remorse. They are totally cool and in no time your entire family will be enjoying movies and games in crisp, vivid, full HD splendor on your LCD flat screen TV and have forgotten they ever had another kind.

Learning About Magnavox HDTV

Why Should You Purchase A Magnavox HDTV

Although HDTV, which stands for High Definition Television was first introduced back in 1998, it will soon be mandated for all television sets.  That means that new televisions will be equipped with HDTV capability and for those that are older models, a type of adapter can be purchased to transform the set to HDTV.  The difference such as what consumers would see with a Magnavox HDTV is a crystal, clear picture that has clarity like nothing ever seen before.

The older analog type of television is not capable of displaying programming for HDTV.  Instead, people can only view programs that would come through on satellite, cable, or regular television.  On the other hand, with high definition, viewers can still view standard television programming, as well as HDTV signals and progressive scan DVD.  Because this is the wave of the future, almost all new television sets use this special programming to include Plasma and LCD high definition television.

In able to receive any show being broadcast you will have to purchase either a Magnavox HDTV or other HDTV.  You may be able to make your current analog television receive HD programs by adding an adapter tuner at a cost of over $125.

After February 2009 when a huge number of older television sets become obsolete their owners will have to make plans to replace them. You can bet that there will be a market for 'conversion hardware' to enable the use of 'analog' sets with the new HD Broadcast Technology.

Most cities in the US with major network stations broadcast over the air in HD. To receive this signal an HD tuner is required.  The new Magnavox HDTV has an HD tuner built in. For HDTV televisions without a built in HD tuner, a separate set-top HD tuner box can be rented from a cable or satellite company or a Magnavox HD tuner box can be purchased.

HDTV broadcast systems are described in the following three ways: 1. The number of lines in the vertical display resolution. 2. The scanning system: Progressive Scanning (noted with a "p") or Interlaced Scanning (noted with an "I".)   Progressive scanning simply draws a complete image frame (all the lines) per image.   Interlaced scanning draws a partial image field (every second line) during a first pass, then fills-in the remaining lines during a second pass. 3. The number of frames per second or fields per second.

Resolution for this type of HDTV programming uses outstanding resolution along with the progressive scan found with 720p.  With true 1080p, you would usually find this being used for HD DVD since the major networks of LED HDTV or LCD high definition television have yet to launch it for broadcasting.

Knowing the technical jargon before going shopping should help when making your final decision. Hopefully you are a little clearer and not more confused about HDTV.  We believe after doing your research on the HDTV brands available you will come to the same conclusion we have. The Magnavox HDTV may well have the most crystal clear HD picture when compared to the rest.

Direct TV Satellite Services Bring Big Entertainment Choices

TV satellite dish

It did not take long after it was made available to the public for television to take off and become the most popular type of entertainment, providing people with countless house of entertainment over the years. To meet the demands of consumers wanting to be entertained there have been an endless stream of all kinds of television shows that have been produced in an attempt to keep people amused and informed. In recent years, more and more people have turned to direct TV satellite service providers to gain access to the most broad and varied selection of home entertainment.

When it comes to getting the most viewing pleasure and the greatest selection of choices in programming, people look to either cable television or satellite TV companies for the most part. Many people are finding that they prefer the selection, the service and the quality that they can enjoy through the combination of a satellite dish antenna and a dish network satellite receiver.

The direct TV satellite providers not only give their customers a better selection of televised programming to watch, but many people feel that the picture quality is better as well. At the same time, these benefits also happen to be less expensive than what similar cable programming packages cost. Also, there are many people who live out in rural areas who cannot get cable, so their only option is to get their home entertainment over a TV satellite dish.

In order to receive satellite TV service, you will need the basic home dish network equipment, which consists of a satellite antenna and a receiver, and a contract with one of the satellite TV services providers. The two main TV satellite dish programming service companies are the Dish Network and DirecTV. Both of these companies provide service to virtually all areas of the United States and because they compete intensely against each other to gain new customers they often offer free installation of the home dish network system.

As long as you have the ability to install a mini dish antenna on your property so that the dish has a clear line of sight to the southern sky, you are a good candidate to become a satellite TV customer. Because a satellite dish antenna must be correctly aligned with the orbiting satellites in order to receive the broadcasts, it is important to have the dish antenna installed by a professional who has been trained and who can properly test the system to make sure everything was correctly situated.

One of the reasons why many people like having a home dish network system is that there are many international channels that they can also have access to, in addition to the standard US channels. This is especially great for people who have an interest in another country, for those who want to learn another language, or for people who have moved to the states from another country, allowing them to keep in tough with what is happening in their native country.

With a direct TV satellite system installed in your home, you will have the ability to choose from a huge variety of different types of news, educational and entertainment programs. Once people start to enjoy all of this wonderful programming they can never go back to any other way of receiving their entertainment and they will never have the complaint that they are bored because there is nothing to watch on their satellite TV.

Cable Satellite TV Attracts Even More Cable Customers

There has been an interesting shift over the last decade in the cable and satellite TV industry. During this time, around 30 million customers have abandoned cable TV companies in favor of the cable satellite TV companies that broadcast their programming over the air. There are several reasons why so many people have made the switch from cable to satellite service, and the powers that be at the cable companies are constantly looking for ways to lure their customers back.

In addition to those who switched from cable to satellite, there are millions more who were never able to have cable access to programming because they lived in rural areas. But, with the addition of a satellite dish antenna and a satellite receiver, those in rural areas now can also enjoy the same entertainment programming as people who live in metropolitan areas.

One of the main reasons why people have moved from the old fashioned, hard-wired cable television providers to the cable satellite TV systems is to save money. In most areas of the country, people pay less to have their television entertainment delivered to them via a dish antenna system than through a hard-wired cable provider.

In order to have cable TV satellite service in your home, you need to have a complete satellite TV system. The first component is the satellite dish antenna that is positioned outside of the premises. You will often see the mini dish antenna units on rooftops, the sides of buildings, on fences or mounted to a pole, in order to provide the proper positioning. The satellite dish antenna must have a clean and unobstructed view of a certain area of the southern sky and they must be precisely positioned by trained technicians.

The second component to a cable satellite TV system is the receiver with takes the signal from the dish antenna and sends it to the television. The receivers have programming that affects the programming guides, providing detailed information about each show you wish to watch.

One of the most interesting innovations that was recently introduced and has quickly become very popular in the DVR, or digital video recorder, that is integrated into some models of cable TV satellite receivers. These DVR receivers allow you to pause live broadcasts and also to record your favorite programs without the need to fuss with video tapes. Some of these devices are dual receivers, which allow you to watch one show while recording a second, or record two shows at the same time.

Cable satellite TV services continue to be popular not only because they provide better value at a lower cost, but also because of the innovative features that they offer, such as DVR services and dish on demand programming. While traditional cable providers now match many of the features of the TV satellite dish services, it seems that the satellite companies tend to be first to bring new innovations and then the cable companies follow a bit later.

If you live in a rural area where cable is not an option you may be stuck with just the stations you receive via an antenna. At least, that was what happened in the past. Now you can have all of the channels you wish. Satellite TV is a great way to have the television shows you want, when you want them. You do not have to worry about expensive cable bills or an antenna that sporadically works. With new software packages you can even enjoy satellite television on your home computer. Why Are People Moving Over To Cable Satellite TV?

cable TV satellite

During the last decade or so, there has been somewhat of an exodus of people who left their cable company in favor of a cable satellite TV company. Obviously, there are some solid reasons why more than 30 million customers decided to walk away from cable in favor of TV satellite dish services, and it seems that some cable company executives are still scratching their heads over this trend.

One primary reason why so many customers have left the old, hard-wired cable TV services behind is that the cable satellite TV system simply costs less. In virtually all markets of the country, people pay quite a bit less to get their entertainment via one of the networks that use a dish antenna than they do through those old-fashioned and dated cable systems.

Direct TV Satellite Creates Tons Of Channels

There is no doubt that television has been providing people with endless hours of entertainment since it was first introduced commercially in the 1940s. As television caught on and became popular, the number of shows expanded continually in order to satisfy the needs of viewers to be entertained in the comfort of their own homes. Today, the direct TV satellite services have come to be the most popular way for people to enjoy the shows they most want to watch at home.

Not only are the programming choices and quality better through the direct TV satellite service providers, but satellite TV has proven to be less expensive than the old-fashioned cable television services. Plus, there are many people who live outside of the main city area and in more rural settings who cannot get cable service, so a TV satellite dish is their only way of accessing the programming that they want.

Many people comment that they could never go back to getting their programming in any other way, and with such a selection, people rarely complain that they are bored or cannot find a thing to watch on their direct TV satellite system.

Is the DVR the Greatest Invention Ever?

The DVR has to be the greatest add-on to my television. Ever since I got connected to DirecTV and their top of the line HD DVR, my TV viewing habits have changed.

Here is how it works.

If you haven’t ever watched television with a digital video recorder, or a TiVo, you don’t know what you are missing. You have total control over everything you decide to watch. If you are watching a show, and all of the sudden you realize that you are starving, you can just hit the pause button. Go make your food, and then come back when you are ready, even if it takes an hour!

Then when you begin watching your show again, you will have the added advantage of skipping through any advertisements that come up. Pass right through them every time they pop up! Sometimes I don't see a commercial for days.

Now here is how I recommend getting the most out of a DVR setup. I don’t surf through channels anymore. I simply set up my DVR to save the programs I like. Even with watching football, I set the DVR to record, then I sit down about an hour after the game actually starts. That way, I can skip through all the commercials, and watch a football game in about half the time.

Lastly, I can always see new episodes of my favorite series. An example, new episodes are coming out soon of Friday Night Lights on Direct TV. On my DVR, all I have to do is select the record series option, and each time the show airs, my DVR finds it day or night, and saves it for me. I can set it to save all of the episodes, or just the first-run episodes. All of this in high definition too!

Then, when I have the time to watch television, all of my favorite shows are ready and waiting there for me to watch. No need to rearrange my schedule around the networks, not with my new DirecTV DVR.
